Below you will find all the material you will need to be prepared for the callbacks for VOS’s production of The Wizard of Oz. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email Sue at fallproducer@victoriaonstage.ca

Callbacks will take place in-person at the VOS hall. Please reserve August 21st & August 22nd between 6:00pm – 9:30pm!

Note from the Creative Team: Our goal in callbacks is to see each performer embody the character they have been called back for in their own way. Here are a few helpful tips:

• There is no expectation to have these scenes or songs memorized – Although, please look through them so you can keep your head out of the paper as much as possible once you’re in the room.
• The movie only shows one of many ways these characters can be portrayed, so explore where the scene/song takes you.
• If we give you direction – It’s a positive thing.
• And finally, have fun!

DOROTHY GALE

Character description: A sweet, innocent young lady with a streak of boldness, outspoken and headstrong

Vocal Range:  (G3-E5)

SCARECROW

Character description: A magical scarecrow from Oz who is loyal, cheerful, and easy-going. A more physically demanding character.

Vocal Range: (D3-F#4)

TINMAN

Character description: A once-human body that has been completely replaced by tin. The Tinman shows themselves to be kind and concerned for others

Vocal Range: (F#3-E5)

LION

Character description: A fierce-seeming lion who is actually frightened of conflict, although he repeatedly shows instances of bravery to help his companions.

Vocal Range: (D3-F#4)

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST (MISS GULCH)

Character description: the main antagonists of the story. The Wicked Witch is evil, conniving, and revengeful.

Vocal Range:  (B2-G#4)

PROFESSOR MARVEL (WIZARD OF OZ)

 Character description: Traveling salesman who lives by telling fortunes; a con-man but with a good heart. (Oz – Strong commanding voice has a lot of status

Vocal Range: SPOKEN

GLINDA THE WITCH OF THE NORTH

Character Description: They are wise and have compassion for those around them. 

Vocal Range: (G3-C5)

GUARD OF EMERALD CITY

Character Description: The Guard is the first character Dorothy meets in the Emerald City. Comical timing is important for this character.

Vocal Range: (F#4-B5)

AUNT EM & UNCLE HENRY

Dorothy’s Aunt and Uncle.

Vocal Range: SPOKEN
