Mary Poppins Sensory-Friendly Performance will take place on May 11th, 2024 at 2:00pm at the McPherson Playhouse.

Victoria On Stage Musical Theatre Society (VOS) is beyond thrilled to be offering our next ‘Sensory-Friendly’ performance at the McPherson Playhouse. Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities. Our goal is to create a safe environment where theatre is made available for those who may not have been able to experience theatre, in a way that works for them.

At VOS, we understand that the most common theatre environment might not be the only barrier folks experience while trying to enjoy theatre. That is why we are offering tickets at a discounted rate for this performance. Tickets will be $20 (instead of $66.00) with an option for an additional free ticket for a family member of caregiver. To purchase tickets please use the link below.

Below you will find resources to help our potential audience members better prepare for the sensory-friendly performance. Including a visual walk-through of the theatre, maps for parking, communication boards and cast introductions. Please feel free to look through the following resources and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Dan via email (

What is a sensory friendly performance?
A sensory friendly performance is designed to create a live theatre experience for guests who have physical, cognitive, social, behavioral, sensory challenges and for their families or caregivers.

What adaptations are made to the performance?
– House lights will be at half or 3/4 throughout the duration of the performance.
– Lower sound level and adaptations to loud startling noises
– Guests are able to leave seats, walk, pace, and leave the main theatre throughout the performance
– Designated quiet areas throughout the theatre
– Guests are able to bring their own devices. (iPad, tablets, noise cancelling headphones)
– Use of weighted blankets, fidgets, seat cushions are encouraged! We want you to be comfortable and enjoy the show.

Can I leave the theatre throughout the performance?
Yes! Sometimes our senses get overwhelmed and we need a break. We will have two quiet areas in the foyer of the McPherson playhouse designated for those time outs. Once you are ready to re enter an usher will assist you back to your seat.

Can I bring my own food or snacks?
Yes! Please feel free to bring your own snacks into the theatre. We recommend bringing your own water bottle and request that no glass containers or bottles be brought into the theatre.

What other resources are available?
Please feel free to utilize our social media pages for introductions to our cast members.
Social stories will be available ahead of time via email.
As well as a short video of the McPherson Playhouse and your experience within the theatre.
