We encourage performer of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities, to submit. To best demonstrate our commitment to inclusion in our community, VOS encourages ALL actors to audition for ANY role which they feel they can fully embody authentically.

Tuesday, July 22: 6:30-9:30 pm
Thursday, July 24: 6:30-9:30 pm
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Auditions will be a mix of singing and learning/performing choreography.
- Each audition slot will be 1 hour long and include.
- Choreography walk-through
- Individual Singing
- Choreography Performance
- All auditioners are required for the full hour
- Singing will be performed individually, while the choreography will be learned/performed in a group setting.
- VOS will provide a piano accompanist. Please bring sheet music in your vocal key. If you don’t have access to sheet music, you’re welcome to sing acapella -or- provide a digital backing track that does not include any vocal parts.
- Performers will be asked to prepare the following:
- Two songs of your choice. Please prepare one verse each of contrasting musical theatre songs, one in the style of the show and one that best showcases your individual abilities as an artist.
- Please wear runners/dance shoes and something you can move in. If you have tap shoes, bring ’em! We have provided a dance video below for folks who’d like extra time learning choreography.
- Performers are encouraged to have fun, make strong character choices. We can’t wait to see what you do!
VIDEO AUDITIONS:
Not available for auditions but still want to submit? VOS provides any performer the opportunity to submit a video audition (submission link at bottom of this page). Please include in your video:
- Two songs of your choice. Please prepare one verse each of contrasting musical theatre songs, one in the style of the show and one that best showcases your individual abilities as an artist.
- Perform the choreography from the Choreography Tutorial (link below).
DATES TO NOTE:
- Sunday, August 10: Callbacks (VOS Hall) 12 noon-4:00 pm
- Tuesday, September 2: Administration Day (Script pick up, Introductions, costume measurements, etc) (VOS Hall) 6:30-9:30 pm
- Thursday, September 4*: First rehearsal (VOS Hall) 6:30-9:30 pm
- Rehearsals are held Tuesday & Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Not all cast members will be required at every rehearsal, but everyone should plan to be available. Rehearsal schedules will be provided in advance; however, they may be adjusted at the director’s discretion.
- *Depending on availability, some performers may be asked to begin rehearsals in mid to late August. This will not affect your chances of being cast in a role.
*All cast members must hold a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (also known as a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector – PIC-VS), which includes an RCMP criminal record and vulnerable sector check. If you do not have a current one, VOS will assist you in obtaining it.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
Bob Wallace– A major singing star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. Despite occasional gruffness, he is a deeply kind and principled man who is searching for true love. Baritone “crooner” (B2-G4 / A4).
Phil Davis– The fun-loving song-and-dance partner of the team Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator, and incorrigible ladies’ man who has a boyish charm. Baritone-tenor (B2-G4).
Betty Haynes– Sensible, responsible half of the Haynes sisters act. Classic elegance of quiet beauty and charm with a rich chest mix and soprano extension (Ab3-D5).
Judy Haynes– Younger, more ambitious and slightly scheming Haynes sister. Wholesome, adorable, and flirty. Strong singer with a chest mix (Ab3-D5).
General Henry Waverly– Retired Army general with a curmudgeonly military exterior, adjusting to retired life. Precise and orderly, a man of integrity. Non-singing.
Martha Watson– Once a Broadway star, now the General’s housekeeper. Very dry wit and frank with a wisecracking sense of humor. Broadway belter (F3-C5).
Susan Waverly– (able to play a 9-year-old girl) – The General’s granddaughter. Lovable and outgoing. Excellent belt voice (G3-C5).
Ralph Sheldrake– Jokester Army buddy of Bob and Phil’s, now a major television executive. Fast talking, loud, brash professional with a good head on his shoulders. (E3-D4)
Rita and Rhoda– Bob and Phil’s star chorus showgirls. Brash and fun.
Ezekiel Foster– Practical, the ultimate laid back New Englander. A man of few words.
Mike– Bob and Phil’s Stage Manager. Can be overly dramatic and often hysterical, but gets the job done.
Ensemble– To play assorted speaking roles as well as being a strong singing and dancing ensemble. Dance style is 1950’s Hollywood movie musical style. Understudies for principal roles will come from this ensemble.
