ELF: The Musical
Production Team Call
Producers ~ Director ~ Music Director ~ Choreographer
Stage Manager ~ Set Design ~ Lighting Design ~ Props ~ Costumes
Application Deadline July 31, 2021
VOS is thrilled to announce our return to the McPherson Playhouse in November 2021 with the hit Broadway show ELF: The Musical. We are now seeking a production team that can hit the ground running. We have secured dates at the McPherson Playhouse for November 26, 27, 28 & December 3, 4, 5. We anticipate a 12 week rehearsal schedule, plus tech week, beginning early September. Although we will most likely be in Phase 4 of the BC Covid restart program, and will have the required communicable disease protocol in place, we will still be looking to keep the cast size to a minimum. Like many businesses it has been costly to keep the lights on at the VOS Hall without our usual revenue, so we will also be looking to keep the set relatively small with the possible use of more projections. We know these are challenges, but we are excited to hear your thoughts now how we can maintain the quality that Victoria audiences have come to expect from a VOS production while adhering to these restrictions.
If you are applying for Producer, Director, Music Director, or Choreographer, you will be contacted shortly by our Future Shows Committee for an interview. If you are applying for Stage Manager, Set Design, Lighting Design, Props, or Costumes, you will be contacted for an interview by the production team once they have been selected.
Based on the cherished 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF: The Musical features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar (The Wedding Singer) and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway), with a book by Tony Award winners,Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) andBob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).
Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
